How To Track Old R350 Grant Appeals

Every month millions of unemployed individuals apply for the R350 grant. However, not every application submitted to the agency responsible for grant distribution will be approved for payment.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) revealed that approximately 12 million people applied for the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant in one month. However, not all the applications were approved for payment by the agency.

Clients whose applications for the R350 grant were unsuccessful have the right to appeal the decision from Sassa. However, knowing where to submit the appeal application is extremely important.

Appeals from April 2022 onwards are ‘new’ because they need to be considered by the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA). The body works independently from Sassa and can take up to three months to evaluate R350 grant appeal applications.

Old appeals refers to appeals logged by applicants between May 2020 to March 2022. These appeals are considered Sassa. Clients can track these appeal applications to determine their outcome and whether or not they will be paid the R350 grant.

Here Is How Track Old R350 Grant Appeals

Visit the Sassa SRD Website
Scroll to the ‘Reconsideration status check: May 2020 to March 2022’ section
Enter in your ID number and the cellphone number you used when you applied for the grant
Wait for a one-time pin from Sassa
Once this one-time pin is received, follow the instructions provided to track your old R350 grant appeal.
Clients can also contact the Sassa Call Centre at 0800 601 011.

Unsuccessful R350 grant applicants must submit an appeal application for each month in which their application was rejected by Sassa. This should only be done if clients believe they are eligible for the R350 grant.
